Speaking of the web, I remember years ago reading a book about it (similar to Horrible Histories but for tech/science stuff), and there was a section about its inventor, Tim Berners-Lee, where it mentioned how he founded W3C and turned down wealthy investors who wanted to buy it off him and charge everyone to use it.
I wish more were like him, but alas.
